Ogun State House of Assembly has passed a resolution calling on the State Government to commence construction or carry out comprehensive repair works on the Kemta-Olokuta-Idi-Aba road to ease human and vehicular movements along the axis especially for commuters who depend on the railway as a means of transportation.

The Sponsor of the resolution, Hon. Adeyanju Adegoke, moved the motion for the opening of the debate on the resolution titled: H.R No. 093/OG/2024- Urgent need for the State Government to construct the Kenta-Olokuta-Idi-Aba train station road, which was seconded by Hon. Olakunle Sobukanla and supported by other lawmakers through a voiced vote at a plenary presided over by the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Oludaisi Elemide.

Opening debate on the resolution, Adeyanju spoke on the deteriorating condition of the Kemta-Olokuta-Idi-Aba Train station road, which connects the Professor Wole Soyinka Train Station and about Fifty-Two (52) Communities within the Abeokuta South Local Government Area, noting that the road had become deteriorated, thereby affecting local connectivity and commercial activities in the area.

Adeyanju added that residents and commuters had expressed considerable concerns on the deplorable condition of the road.

He explained that the condition of the road had been worsened by flooding, making it largely impassable for vehicles, with only commercial motorcyclists managing to navigate the stretch of the road.

Contributing to the motion, other lawmakers including, Honouarbles Damilola Soneye, Odunuga Kaka, Oyedele Adebisi, Adeniran Ademola and Lukmon Atobatele sought the State Government’s attention in addressing the situation of the road, positing that such intervention would revitalize economic activities, enhance safety and improve the overall quality of lives of the residents in the area and its adjoining communities.

They submitted that the construction of the road would give a facelift to the area, thereby improving the living conditions of the residents and attract more tourists to the State.

Responding, Speaker Elemide said it had become imperative for the State Government to yield to the plights of the road users across the State,
especially, as the rainy season approaches; lending his voice in support of the road which he noted would ease human and vehicular movements.
