ABUJA — President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Monday officially swore in Mr. Joseph Olasunkanmi Tegbe as the new Minister of Power and Ambassador Sola Enikanolaiye as the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs.
The swearing-in ceremony took place at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, in the presence of the ministers’ spouses and top government officials.
The appointments followed the resignations of former Minister of Power, Chief Adebayo Adelabu, and former Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar, who stepped down to pursue their political ambitions.
President Tinubu had subsequently nominated Tegbe and Enikanolaiye for the ministerial positions, and both nominees were confirmed by the Senate on May 6, 2026.
Tegbe, an indigene of Ibadan in Oyo State, brings more than three decades of experience in economic reforms, fiscal policy, institutional development and stakeholder engagement. He holds a First Class degree in Civil Engineering from Obafemi Awolowo University, as well as Master’s degrees in Business Administration and Public Administration from institutions in Switzerland and Birmingham, respectively.
Before his appointment, Tegbe served as Senior Partner and Head of Advisory Services at KPMG Africa, where he led major reform initiatives and advised governments and private sector organisations on transformation strategies. His professional engagements have included work with the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), Nigerian Bulk Electricity Trading (NBET), Shell, MTN, Huawei, General Electric and Odu’a Group, among others.
The new Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Sola Enikanolaiye, is a seasoned diplomat with over 35 years of service in Nigeria’s foreign service. A native of Igbagun in Kogi State, he graduated with a First Class degree in Political Science from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, where he also emerged as the best graduating student in his faculty. He later obtained a Master’s degree in International Law and Diplomacy from the University of Lagos with distinction.
Enikanolaiye joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1982 and rose through the ranks to become Permanent Secretary of the ministry in 2016 before retiring in August 2017.
Throughout his diplomatic career, he served in several Nigerian missions abroad, including Ethiopia, Serbia, Canada, the United Kingdom and India, where he was Nigeria’s Head of Mission in New Delhi.
He is a recipient of several national and professional honours, including the Presidential Civil Service Merit Award and the Presidential Distinguished Public Service Career Award.
Prior to his appointment, Enikanolaiye served as Senior Special Assistant to President Tinubu on Foreign Affairs and International Relations in the Office of the Chief of Staff to the President.
The presidency said the appointments are aimed at strengthening governance and advancing the administration’s objectives in the power and foreign affairs sectors.
