The Speaker of the Ogun State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Oludaisi Elemide has sought the intervention of the State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, for the immediate creation of the State Boundary Commission that will develop strategies towards exploring all historical documents, with a view to resolving the recurring boundary-related disputes between the State and other neighbouring States.

Elemide disclosed this during a fact-finding visit to communities including Eleso-Iya Dudu, Ataakan and Aiyegbede, where beacons were inspected at the places in dispute along the boundary between Ogun and Oyo States.

Elemide in company of the Deputy Speaker, Bolanle Ajayi and seven other lawmakers, as well as the Chairman, Odeda Local Government, Folasade Adeyemo, members of the Technical Committee, Boundary Committee under the Office of the Deputy Governor, representatives of the State Commissioner of Police, Commandant, Amotekun, appealed for the intervention of the Governor to provide more infrastructural projects, especially road networks, to further give a sense of belonging to the residents of the affected areas.

Commenting on the desirability of the proposed State Boundary Commission, the Speaker, who commended the State Deputy Governor, Engr. Noimot Salako-Oyedele, for effectively coordinating the State Boundary Committee, explained that such an agency, upon creation, would allow for non-tenured continuity of coordinated records on lands and historical documents that would seamlessly engage the National Boundary Commission on all boundary issues in the State.

Imploring the residents to continue to be law-abiding, the Speaker assured that the Assembly would explore all necessary legislative mechanisms, including passage of a House Resolution to convey the findings and recommendations of the House to concerned stakeholders, including the State Governor and the National Boundary Commission.

He suggested the need for the State Government to complement the efforts of Odeda Local Government to set up additional security posts, and sought the deployment of policemen by the State Police Command to checkmate the incessant attacks on the law-abiding residents in the affected communities.

Earlier in her submission, the Chairman, Odeda Local Government, Mrs. Folasade Adeyemo lauded the Speaker and other members of the House for the visit, appealing for the swift intervention of the State Governor to help find a lasting solution to the matter.
