Obafemi Owode Local Government has presented a draft budget of N18,035,215,836.40 for the 2026 fiscal year to the Legislative Council, christened the “Budget of Sustainable Expansion and Economic Development.”

The Executive Chairman, Ambassador Adesina ‘Lanre Ogunsola, FCPA, presented the appropriation bill before the council legislature on Wednesday, outlining his administration’s development agenda for the coming year.

Addressing the legislative arm, Amb. Ogunsola reviewed the performance of the previous year’s budget, noting that despite national economic adjustments and rising public expectations, the council maintained committed prudent financial management.

He stressed the high performance of his administration in implementing several notable projects and programmes, revealing that he had facilitated various local and international partnerships that fostered growth and development in the council area.

“Specifically, our administration successfully facilitated partnership with the Government of Dover, United States of America, the Izindonga Group of South Africa and other local partners to further enhance development initiative for the benefit of our communities,” the chairman stated.

According to him, these efforts have led to several prestigious awards and recognitions both locally and internationally, including a National Award as one of the best Local Governments in Nigeria by the Local Government Chairmen Merit Award (LOGMA 2025) for excellence in grassroots leadership and development. He was also ranked third best performing Local Government Chairman in Nigeria for quality leadership, service delivery and accountability.

Amb. Ogunsola reiterated his commitment to the development of Obafemi Owode, emphasising that the 2026 budget has been prepared to reflect the developmental aspirations of the people and the economic realities of the time.

“We acknowledged the challenges posed by the revenue limitations and increasing public expectations, as our determination to accelerate growth and sustainable development remains strong,” he said.

He assured strict budget implementation, responsible resource utilisation and effective monitoring mechanisms to ensure every naira allocated translates into tangible benefits for all communities in the council area.

“This budget is a strategic roadmap designed to accelerate infrastructure delivery, improve institutional capacity, expand economic opportunities and promote the overall quality of life of our people,” he concluded.

The council boss commended Governor Dapo Abiodun for his visionary leadership and transformative infrastructural initiatives across Ogun State, particularly within Obafemi Owode Local Government. He noted that the council area has benefited greatly from the governor’s developmental agenda, including the Siun-Ofada-Mowe Road project—a major economic corridor that has enhanced mobility, trade and connectivity.

“In furtherance, our administration has complemented the effort by extending the road intervention to Ogidan-Geleodun Road, thereby expanding access and improving socio-economic activities in adjoining communities,” the chairman added.

He sought the cooperation of the Leader and Honourable members to give the 2026 Appropriation Bill speedy passage in the overall interest of the people, encouraging joint effort and shared responsibility in building a united, forward-looking council.

Responding, the Leader of the Legislative Council, Hon. Saheed Ariyibi, assured the speedy passage of the budget after receiving the draft from the Executive Chairman. He commended the harmonious relationship between the legislative and executive arms, noting that the interests of councillors in their various constituencies are well attended to without delay.

Dignitaries present at the budget presentation included the Vice Chairman, Hon. Abiodun Sobukonla; Secretary to the Local Government, Hon. Kayode Dipeolu; APC Party Chairman, Obafemi Owode Local Government, Chief Emmanuel Idowu Olude; the Olu of Owode Egba, HRH Oba Kolawole Sowemimo; and former House of Assembly member, Hon. Dele Erisan, among others.
