The serene towns of Ijebu North Local Government Area were recently electrified by the inaugural edition of a comprehensive Summer Camp program, an initiative conceived and funded by Hon. Jenriyi Osinowo.
The five-day event, which ran from Monday, September 1st to Friday, September 5th, successfully engaged over five hundred primary and secondary school children, providing a unique platform for recreation, talent discovery, and community bonding.
Held simultaneously at two designated venues; Imososi Methodist Primary School, Ago Iwoye and St. John Bosco Nursery & Primary School, Ijebu Igbo, the camp was a hive of activity. Children participated in a diverse array of events including football matches, table tennis tournaments, scavenger hunts and traditional board games like Ayo Olopon and Ludo. The program was noted for its high level of organisation and counsellors and medical personnel on standby to ensure the safety and well-being of all participants.
The closing ceremony on Friday at St. John Bosco School was a grand affair, attended by traditional rulers and political dignitaries, including Oba (Dr.) Abdulrasheed Abayomi Banjo, the Olokine of Ojowo, and representatives of former Ogun East Senators.
In his address, the program’s benefactor, Hon. Jenriyi Osinowo, stated that the camp was more than just a holiday activity. “The major purpose is to give children a platform to showcase their talents, make friends, and share lasting experiences,” Osinowo explained. “It is an investment in their holistic development and the future of our community.”
The event reached a poignant climax as each of the 500 children received a brand new school bag, notebooks, and other essential learning materials. This gesture, aimed at easing the financial burden on parents ahead of the new school term, was met with widespread applause and commendation from families and observers.
Many commentators have hailed the camp’s flawless execution as a watershed moment for community-driven initiatives in the local government. A parent, who gave her name as Mrs. Adeyemi, remarked, “If Hon. Jenriyi Osinowo could deliver this with his personal resources, I wonder what he would do with the mandate of the people and government resources. This is a leader who walks his talk.”
Confirming the program’s permanence, Hon. Osinowo announced that the Summer Camp will become an annual event, a declaration that was met with a thunderous ovation from the audience.
As the 2027 elections approach, initiatives like this summer camp are positioning Hon. Osinowo as a leader whose service, compassion, and vision are demonstrated through tangible action, resonating deeply with the people of Ijebu North and beyond.
