The Ogun State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has issued a strong rebuttal against what it describes as a “malicious, unfounded, and libellous publication” circulating on social media and digital platforms, which contained wild allegations against the party and its leaders.

In an official disclaimer released on Thursday and signed by its Director of Publicity, Hon. Nuberu Adesanya Olufemi, the party stated unequivocally that the publication is entirely false, baseless, and politically motivated. It was characterised as a deliberate attempt by “agents of disunity and detractors” to undermine the integrity of the APC and the peaceful political environment in Ogun State.

The APC categorically denied the existence of any ritual oath-taking event involving its members or leaders. The party stated that the claims are not only fabricated but are designed to incite public disaffection, spread fear, and damage the reputation of the party and its officials. The event described was dismissed as a “complete fiction,” with the party dissociating itself entirely from the reporting.

The statement clarified that while oath-taking is a recognised constitutional practice for affirming loyalty, it is strictly regulated by the Oaths Act. The party emphasised its operations within the framework of the Nigerian Constitution, the Electoral Act, and its own constitution, condemning any action that contravenes these legal and ethical standards.

In response to the allegations, the party revealed that it has initiated a thorough internal review. It confirmed that all members mentioned in the publication have been contacted and have unequivocally denied any involvement. To ensure transparency, the Ogun State APC will be constituting an independent fact-finding committee to investigate the source and motivation behind the false claims, with a promise to make its findings public.

The party challenged the purveyors of the falsehood and anyone with credible evidence to come forward and formally present such proof to the Ogun State APC Secretariat. It warned that should any registered member be found engaging in unlawful activities, swift disciplinary action would be taken.

The APC further issued a stern warning to those behind the publication to desist from spreading falsehoods, reserving the right to pursue all legal remedies, including civil and criminal actions, against individuals or groups involved in defaming its image.

The public was urged to disregard the publication in its entirety and to rely only on official communications from the party through its recognised channels. The APC reaffirmed its focus on its mission to promote unity, development, and good governance in Ogun State, stating it would not be distracted by the “antics of desperate political elements.”
