The recent sighting of Otunba Gbenga Daniel’s (OGD) 2027 senatorial campaign materials displayed on the building of Ladi Adebutu’s father and at the Ladi Adebutu Pork Factory in Iperu has sent shockwaves through Ogun State politics, but really not shocking to those who have long understood the reasons for his suspension by the APC. For a supposed APC stalwart, this is not only a blatant act of anti-party conduct but also a reaffirmation of Daniel’s well-documented history of betrayal.

In the 2023 gubernatorial elections, OGD reportedly collected a substantial sum of money from Ladi Adebutu’s father, directing his followers to vote against his own party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), in favour of the PDP candidate, then-incumbent Governor Dapo Abiodun. This betrayal was not a one-off event. During the August 16, 2025 bye-election for the Remo Federal Constituency, Daniel again instructed his supporters to vote against the APC candidate, Elegbeji, repeating the pattern of treachery.

Such actions clearly justify his suspension by the APC at the ward level, a decision ratified by the party’s State Executive Council. The evidence is undeniable: a man whose loyalty swings with financial inducements cannot be trusted to uphold party principles. While some may argue against expulsion, the record is damning. Daniel has switched parties multiple times — from AD to PDP, then Labour Party, back to PDP, and most recently to APC — consistently prioritizing personal ambition over party loyalty.

Otunba Gbenga Daniel’s conduct is a disgrace to any political institution. He has repeatedly demonstrated a complete disregard for party rules, ethical standards, and public trust. The display of campaign banners on the property of a political opponent’s family is not only brazen but a direct insult to APC members and supporters.

For the integrity of the party and the message it sends to other members, serious consideration must now be given to OGD’s expulsion from the APC. Tolerating such serial betrayal would set a dangerous precedent and embolden other opportunists. A man of this character, unrepentant and self-serving, has no place in a party that values loyalty, discipline, and the collective good.

History will judge OGD not just for his political ambitions, but for the repeated acts of disloyalty that have defined his career. The APC must act decisively to protect its principles and restore the confidence of its members.
