Abeokuta, Ogun State – In a bid to prevent the escalation of tensions and maintain law and order, the Ogun State House of Assembly has directed all parties involved in the chieftaincy tussle over the Baale stool of Abese Town in Ewekoro Local Government Area to maintain the status quo and uphold peace in the community.

The directive was issued by the House Committee on Justice and Public Petitions during a meeting with the contending parties, including Chief Musiliu Awofe Adebolajo and Chief Olawole Babayemi Aikulola, held at the Assembly Complex in Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.

Hon. (Barr.) Oluseun Adesanya, Chairman of the Committee, emphasized that the Assembly is committed to ensuring that the installation and conduct of traditional rulers in the state adhere strictly to operational laws and regulations. He urged all parties to refrain from actions that could disrupt peace and to await further engagement with relevant stakeholders.

The meeting was attended by other lawmakers, including Honourable Dickson Awolaja, Babatunde Tella, Musefiu Lamidi, Fola Salami, Ademola Adeniran, and Waliu Owode. In their separate remarks, the legislators reiterated the Assembly’s commitment to resolving the dispute through due process and fact-finding.

The lawmakers also announced plans to extend invitations to other stakeholders, including the prescribed authority within the domain, to verify the authenticity of the claims made by the parties involved in the chieftaincy dispute.

The Assembly’s intervention underscores its dedication to preserving peace and order in Ogun State while ensuring that traditional institutions operate within the framework of the law. Further updates are expected as the Assembly continues its fact-finding mission and engages with all concerned parties.
