The Class of 81 of Oke-Ona Grammar School Abeokuta, Ogun State Old Students Association (OGSOSA), the set the produced the Chief of Staff to Governor Abiodun, Alhaji Shuaib Afolabi Salisu, celebrated their 40 years of graduating from the School.

The set also donates 400 books that cut across all subjects for the use of the students, payment of 2021 West African Examination Council fees for 40 Indigent Students, Cash gifts and honorary awards for four teachers who were very impactful during their time in the School.

The Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Prof Abayomi Arigbabu speaking during the unveiling and presentation of the books, commended the group for remembering their Alma-mata that molded them to what they became today.

Prof Arigbabu underscored the importance of the textbooks donated by the group ranging from Mathematics, English, Physics, Chemistry, Economics and many other relevant subjects required to gain admission into Tertiary Institution, calling on well meaning individuals to form groups and other Old Student Associations to come up with ideas that would complement government’s efforts in providing qualitative education.

While welcoming members and guests, the Chairperson of OGSOSA ’81 Set, Chief Mrs. Omolara Ariori said the group was formed in 2017 under the umbrella of OGSOSA Worldwide to give back to their alma mata, saying that since then OGSOSA CLASS OF ’81 had executed two payback projects in 2018 and 2019 respectively.

Mrs Ariori noted that the group have been able to reach out to Oke-Ona Grammer School through their donations of One Hundred (100) units of examination desks, sporting equipment, and accessories, noting that it includes cash and award certificate to three (3) Outstanding students in the year 2019 WAEC, and Career talk for students in Accounting and Engineering Courses.

She added that 40th Graduation Anniversary of OGSOSA ’81, the set came with a pumper package, so as to give back to our alma-mata by paying for 40 indigent students of Oke-Ona Grammer School WAEC.

“Indeed, we also plan to equip the the school library with 400 books cutting across all subjects from JSS1 to SS3, Honorary Awards and cash gifts to four most impactful teachers in the school during our time in the School”, Mrs Ariori submitted.

The Chief of Staff to the Governor Alhaji Shuaib Afolabi Salisu in his remark, reflected on God’s benevolence in their lives who protected them to see 40years of graduating from Secondary School, he maintained that the award recognition would be extended to other teachers who were in the School during their time that are still alive.

Salisu who harps on the group’s unity and commitment, charged the Students to be dedicated to their studies, saying that they suffer no any disadvantage by being a Student of the School because they are proud inheritors of great heritage of academic excellence, promising the group’s continued support to the School.

Speaking after the presentation, the Principal of the School, Mrs Olopade Felicia who described the return of the ’81 Set to the School as worthwhile and remarkable, stated that government alone can not do it all, calling on other groups under the association to emulate the kind gesture of the 81 set.

Dignitaries at the occasion including; Alhaji Abdulwaheed Odusile, Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Chairman, Committee for Transportation OGHA, Hon. Daisi Elemide, The Executive Chairman of Odeda Local Government Area, Hon. Folasade Adeyemo, the Executive Chairman of Abeokuta North LGA, Hon. Adebayo Ayorinde and Hon Rotimi Adeyemi, Leader Legislative Arm, Odeda Local Government Areas.
