Abuja – President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, has appealed to the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to grant return tickets to National Assembly members who emerged victorious in the party’s primary elections ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Akpabio made the appeal on Wednesday in Abuja during the inauguration of the APC National Campaign Council for the June 20, 2026, Ekiti State Governorship Election.
The Senate President is co-chairing the campaign council alongside Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani. The council was inaugurated by the APC National Chairman, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda.
Addressing party leaders at the event, Akpabio urged the National Working Committee (NWC) to ensure that lawmakers who had successfully secured victory in the primaries were duly considered when compiling the party’s final list of candidates.
He noted that while governors and the President have constitutional and political influence in party affairs, members who lost during the primaries should not expect intervention to overturn the outcome.
According to him, party members seeking elective offices should have adequately prepared and worked hard to secure victory during the primaries.
Akpabio congratulated lawmakers who won their contests and advised those who were unsuccessful to accept the outcome, expressing confidence that the party’s final list would reflect the results of the primaries.
The Senate President also used the occasion to endorse Ekiti State Governor Biodun Oyebanji for a second term, describing his administration’s achievements and leadership style as commendable.
“Left to us in the National Assembly, we would have told the party to leave the entire election to us. We are very proud of his achievements, his humility and we are confident of his victory,” Akpabio said.
Earlier, APC National Chairman Professor Nentawe Yilwatda expressed confidence in the party’s readiness for the Ekiti governorship election, stating that the APC possesses the structure, strength and support base needed to secure victory at the polls.
The Ekiti State Governorship Election is scheduled to hold on June 20, 2026.
