The Executive Chairman of Ifo Local Government, Hon. Idris Kusimo, has celebrated Miss Favour Ayedun, a pupil of St. Peter’s School, Oke-Aro, and winner of the 2025 Spelling Bee Competition, as the One-Day Chairman during the 2025 Children’s Day celebration held at the Ifo City Hall on Tuesday, June 3, 2025.

The colourful event marked the maiden edition of the One-Day Chairman Initiative, introduced by Hon. Kusimo as part of efforts to inspire leadership and academic excellence among students. It featured lively activities including a dancing competition, bouncing castles, and other fun-filled amusement sessions. Over 300 pupils from various schools across Ifo Local Government were in attendance.

Earlier in the day, Miss Ayedun formally resumed duties in the Chairman’s office, where she addressed the press and outlined her vision for improving education in Ifo. She advocated for increased investment in the sector and emphasized the importance of quality education in shaping the future of the local government. She also encouraged her peers to take their studies seriously and pursue excellence in all endeavours.

As part of her honour, Miss Ayedun received a cash prize and was joined by five other top contestants of the Spelling Bee Competition, who served as One-Day Executive Council Members in various capacities. All six participants were presented with certificates of recognition for their outstanding performance and leadership roles.

In his remarks, Hon. Idris Kusimo commended the students for their enthusiasm and active participation. He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to educational development and youth empowerment. To further demonstrate this, he distributed school bags and other educational materials to all student attendees.

Speaking at the event, Hon. Kusimo stated, “Today is not just a celebration—it is a reaffirmation of our resolve to nurture the future leaders of Ifo. I congratulate Miss Favour Ayedun and all participants for their impressive contributions and performances.”

The One-Day Chairman Initiative is expected to become an annual event aimed at motivating young students to strive for academic excellence while cultivating leadership and civic responsibility.

The celebration was attended by key political and administrative stakeholders, including, the Chairperson, Mrs. Shakirat Omowunmi Kusimo, the Vice Chairman, Hon. Abibat Ojo; Leader of the Legislative Council, Hon. Samuel Bamigboye; Supervisors; Special Advisers; Councillors; the Head of Local Government Administration, Akogun Fatai Ogundele; as well as Directors and Heads of various departments. Also present were the Education Secretary of Ifo Local Government Education Authority (LGEA), Hon. Rasheed Akintoye, educators, community leaders, and other stakeholders, who all applauded the initiative as a creative and impactful strategy to inspire future leaders.
