Stakeholders in the telecommunication sector in Ogun State have been assured that land administration policy on licensing and erection of infrastructure would not only be conducive and inviting to investors, but also ensure that land resources are well managed and properly harnessed for the benefit of the people.

The Special Adviser/ Director-General in the Bureau of Lands and Survey, Mr. Aina Salami gave this assurance in Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta at a stakeholders’ meeting with the Association of Licenced Telecommunication Operators of Nigeria (ALTON)

Speaking on “Obtaining of Licences on Land for the Erection of Telecommunication Infrastructure in Ogun State”, the theme of the meeting, Salami explained that the Bureau has made tremendous efforts to make the State attain an enviable position among its contemporaries in the ease of doing business, and assured of continuous dialogue with investors in order to achieve customers’ satisfaction.

“The roundtable stakeholders’ meeting with the representatives of ALTON was to intimate them and members of the public of the reform undertaken by the Bureau to make process of applications easier for the use of government land and obtaining the necessary licence to use same for the erection of telecommunication infrastructure”, he said.

In her contribution, Consultant, Ogun Investment Promotion Agency, Mrs. Feyintola Odulaja said it was important to have an impactful revolution in the telecommunication infrastructure regulations, as it would ensure flawless processing of their activities in the State, noting that access to land and associated licences were pivotal to successful operations and distribution of telecommunication infrastructure.

Odulaja maintained that deployment of innovative solutions to the issue of telecommunication operation would enhance economic and political development in the State to further open doors for more investors.

Also speaking, the Chairman House Committee on Lands and Housing, Hon. Damilola Soneye, said telecommunication operators should consider health of the people and safety of the environment in their operations, adding that the State House of Assembly would ensure speedy passage of relevant laws guiding their operations.

In his contribution, the Executive Secretary, ALTON, Mr. Gbolahan Awonuga assured that the Association would contribute its quota to the economy and security of the State through Corporate Social Responsibility activities, saying they are major stakeholders in the provision of terrestrial infrastructure.

Awonuga solicited government’s support to make provision for a one-stop-shop for quick harmonisation of processing of licence approval, explaining that erection of mast poses no danger to the people.
