In a falsified claim published on an online news site, the candidate of the nearly defunct Allied People’s Movement, APM in the Ogun 2019 Governorship Election, Hon. Abdulkabir Adekunle Akinlade, AAA depicted himself as being the reason for the Governor of Ogun State, Prince Dapo Abiodun’s sympathy and assessment visit to the crisis-ridden Yewa axis of the State. Nothing can be more specious and unfounded.

In the statement by his aide, Hon. Akinlade claimed that Governor Abiodun “reacted positively to his suggestions about visiting the victims and setting up intelligence gathering mechanisms” (SIC). This is a highly malicious, self-serving and hypocritical claim.

It can only be a proud of a bad dream that has refused to go. He should wake up from his slumber and join the train of real and productive co-travellers who are building the future of our state together.

AAA’s position contradicts the fact that Governor Dapo Abiodun had sent a special delegation comprising of Hon. Commissioners and Advisers to the troubled areas a day before his own visit. I was part of the delegation and we met people across ethnic, religious and social classes.

Governor Abiodun’s swift response as occasioned by his action and visit to the affected area by the conflict is symbolic of his commitment towards the security of lives and property in Ogun State. As a true leader who holds the people’s mandate, he will continue to demonstrate his commitment by deploying resources and mechanism towards ensuring peaceful coexistence of all the people of Ogun State and those who have made the Gateway State their home.

Even before now, Prince Dapo Abiodun has always been methodical, inclusive, responsible and responsive in his approach to governance. But, it is unfortunate that Hon. Akinlade is neither a member of the Governor Abiodun’s cabinet of technocrats, professionals and experienced public servants nor a member of his party, APC and doesn’t share his progressive ideology. So why does he want to approximate the goodwill of His Excellency development Agenda in Ogun State?

That is why Hon. Akinlade is short of ideas concerning the deliberate and calculated strategy of the present Administration towards handling and management of situations.

A cursory look at Hon. Akinlade’s statement confirms the shocking revelation that the gubernatorial candidate probably never had the peace of his own people at heart. And, as a son of the soil, it is a surprise that Hon. Akinlade is more interested in exploiting the unfortunate recent fatal developments to score cheap political points off his people.

All this reaffirms the God-driven escape of the people of Ogun State from what would have been four torturous years of political manipulations and deceptive leadership.

Therefore, Hon. Akinlade and his cohorts are advised to join in the management of situation and the process of restoring peace in the troubled area instead of manipulating the process which is already yielding positive results.

Hon. Hadi Sanni,
Special Assistant, Inter-Ethnic Relations to Gov. Dapo Abiodun
