Iperu-Remo – Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has paid glowing tribute to the late Dr. Doyin Okupe, describing him as a man of unwavering commitment to Nigeria, his family, and his faith. The governor spoke on Saturday during the final burial service of the former presidential spokesman at the Wesley Methodist Cathedral in Iperu-Remo.
Governor Abiodun eulogized Okupe as a cerebral, humble, and generous individual who remained steadfast in his convictions. “He was a media guru, an articulate and fearless spokesman, and a noble warrior for democracy,” Abiodun said. “Dr. Okupe was a professional in politics—not a professional politician—and his principles were unshakable.”
Highlighting Okupe’s unique ability to separate politics from personal relationships, the governor noted, “He could oppose you politically yet maintain a genuine friendship. That was the mark of his character.”
In his sermon, the Methodist Archbishop of Egba-Yewa, The Most Rev. Adegbemi Atanda Adewale, urged attendees to reflect on the impermanence of life and strive to leave a positive legacy. “Dr. Okupe’s life reminds us that influence and wealth should be used to serve humanity,” he said.
The burial service was attended by prominent figures, including former Ogun State Governor Senator Gbenga Daniel, ex-Benue First Lady Arc. Yemisi Suswam, and Special Adviser to the President on Information & Strategy, Mr. Bayo Onanuga, among others.
Governor Abiodun called on Nigerians to emulate Okupe’s impactful life, emphasizing that service to others transcends political office. “True legacy lies in how we treat people and the difference we make in their lives,” he said.
