In response to the clarion call by government for increased support to cushion the effect of the lockdown on the less privileged members of the society, Emmanuel Chapel Methodist Church, Nigeria, Banana Island, Ikoyi has donated 3,300 pieces of packaged food items to the Ogun state government.

Picnic - Community

Presenting the donation to the representative of the state government, the Chairman of the relief committee of the Church, Mrs. Adenike Ogunlana said the gesture was in obeisance to the word of God to lend a helping hand to the needy in the society adding that it would complement the efforts of the government during the period of the lockdown.

She assured that the Church would not relent on the gesture noting that giving to the needy in the society would be a continuous exercise for them.

Commenting, the Chaplain of the Church, Reverend Koyinsola Ajayi said the exercise was important as more than 70% of Nigerians lived below poverty level.

He said “as a Church, we should do what God says we should do, we believe it is about faith and showing love to others”

The Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Hon. Funmi Efuwape while receiving the items on behalf of the state government, lauded the kind initiative of the Church which according to her came at a crucial period when complementarity was needed by the state to cushion the effects of the lockdown on the people of the state.

Hon. Efuwape who enjoyed the presence of the wife of the Governor, Mrs. Bamidele Abiodun at the event expressed optimism and prayed that the pandemic would soon become a thing of the past.

The wife of the Governor of Ogun State, Mrs. Abiodun used the opportunity of the event to reaffirm the commitment of the state government and her office to continue to see to the welfare of the people urging individuals and corporate organizations to continue to lend a helping hand to the needy in the society beyond the Covid-19 pandemic.
