Abuja– The Nigeria Police Force has announced the successful arrest and repatriation of a 61-year-old Turkish national, Acar Huseyin, who fled his country after being convicted for fraud.

Huseyin was sentenced to 14 years, 8 months, and 10 days in prison by the Istanbul Anadolu High Criminal Court earlier this year. According to a police statement, he escaped from Turkey shortly after the judgment was passed.

His run from the law ended in Nigeria, where he was tracked down by the INTERPOL National Central Bureau (NCB) in Abuja. The operation was launched after INTERPOL NCB Ankara issued a Red Notice for his arrest in July 2025.

“Acting on this request, INTERPOL NCB Abuja initiated discreet intelligence-led operations which led to his arrest in Abuja,” the police stated.

Following the arrest and completion of necessary extradition paperwork, Huseyin has been sent back to Turkey to begin serving his prison sentence.

The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, commended the INTERPOL unit for its work. He reaffirmed that Nigeria will not be a safe haven for fugitives and emphasized the force’s commitment to international police cooperation in the fight against transnational crime.

The repatriation underscores the effective collaboration between Nigerian authorities and international law enforcement partners in tracking down and returning individuals who attempt to evade justice across borders.
