Abeokuta – The Special Adviser to the Ogun State Governor on the Ogun State Environmental Protection Agency (OGEPA), Alhaji Farouk Akintunde, has called on industries across the state to adhere strictly to environmental protection regulations aimed at reducing pollution and enhancing the quality of life for residents.

Akintunde made the appeal during a 3-day inspection tour of industries across the three operational zones of the agency. He emphasised the need for industries to comply with environmental standards in their production activities while fostering a harmonious relationship with their host communities.

Accompanied by directors of the agency, Akintunde stated that the visit was crucial to understanding the challenges industries face in meeting environmental regulations. He encouraged companies to engage in tree planting initiatives to mitigate climate change and improve air quality.

The OGEPA boss also sought stronger collaboration between the agency and industries, urging companies to grant agency officials unrestricted access during inspections to ensure compliance.

In their responses, Mr. Akeem Akindele, Consultant for Ganfeng Lithium Limited, and Mr. Rasak Sulaimon, Production Manager of Hayat Kimya Nigeria Limited, highlighted their commitment to staff training and the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to ensure a safe and healthy work environment.

Industries visited in the Ogun West Zone included Hayat Kimya Nigeria Limited, Alef Recycling, Reliance Chemical Limited, International Distillers Limited, and Tower Aluminium Industry in Agbara and Ota. In the Ogun East Zone, the team inspected Long-Xian Aluminium Limited, Ganfeng Lithium Limited, Italy Ceramic Limited, Kam Steel Limited, and Metal Manufacturing Limited along the Ogere and Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

The tour concluded in the Ogun Central Zone with visits to Chi Farms Limited, Valency Agro Nigeria Limited, Lifemate Furniture, and West African Soy Industrial Limited, also located along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
