The Ogun State Waste Management Authority (OGWAMA) has commenced full-scale waste evacuation operations across Ijebu-Ode, clearing refuse heaps on major highways and inner roads to restore sanitation order in the ancient city.
Operations which began in the early hours of Monday saw OGWAMA’s compactors and Private Sector Participants (PSPs) deployed to strategic locations, including Awujale Palace Road, Folagbade, and Ejirin Road.
Confirming the development, the General Manager of OGWAMA, Hon. Farouk Akintunde, who also serves as Special Adviser to the Governor and Managing Director/CEO of the authority, said the exercise is part of the state government’s renewed commitment to environmental cleanliness across all local government areas.
“We have commenced morning operations with compactor C-12 along Awujale Palace Road, and our PSP operators—DE-FRUNT and DISAJ—are currently intervening along Folagbade and Ejirin Road respectively. This is a continuous exercise aimed at ensuring that Ijebu-Ode and indeed every part of Ogun State remains clean and healthy for residents,” Akintunde stated.
He noted that the evacuation drive aligns with the vision of Governor Prince Dapo Abiodun to maintain a cleaner, safer environment, adding that OGWAMA will sustain the momentum and extend operations to other areas as needed.
Residents of Ijebu-Ode have been urged to cooperate with the authority by disposing of waste properly and patronising accredited PSP operators to complement the government’s efforts.
