Workers in the Ogun State Civil/Public Service have been admonished to remain united and continue to discharge their duties with utmost responsibility in order to keep moving the State forward.

The Head of Service, Alhaja Selimot Ottun gave the admonition today while receiving members of the Joint Negotiating Council (JNC) of the State Public Service who embarked on an awareness health walk from Kuto to Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, as part of efforts to commemorate the 2021 May Day celebration.

According to Alhaja Ottun, for the State Civil Service to keep moving from strength to strength, the workers must be in one accord, remain diligent and dedicated in the daily discharge of their statutory duties.

Represented by the Permanent Secretary, Bureau of Service Matters, Mr. Dahunsi Ogunleye, in company of his counterpart from Establishments and Training, Mrs. Lydia Fajounbo, the Head of Service appreciated the workers for the initiative to kickstart the May Day with an health walk, and added that mental as well as physical well being are necessary ingredients to keep a worker fit and agile for assigned tasks.

On his part, the Chairman, JNC, Ogun State chapter, Comrade Olanrewaju Folorunso said the essence of the walk was to sensitise the workers about imminent health challenges so that caution can be maintained while going about their duties.

Comrade Folorunso thereafter charged the workers to keep putting in their best in the discharge of their statutory duties as they have been known to always be at the peak of all that they engage in and used the medium to appeal to government to meet other demands of the workers for the betterment of their wellbeing.

Adding her voice, the Chairman, National Association of Nigerian Nurses and Midwives (NANNM), who doubles as the Vice Chairman, JNC, Comrade Roseline Solarin said the walk became imperative as untimely deaths were been recorded as a result of sedimentary lives being lived by the workers without any form of body exercise, this, she said will enhance their health status.

Comrade Solarin appreciated God for grace to come out enmasse to celebrate this year’s May Day as the last fell within lock down and called on the workers to go for the COVID-19 vaccine in order to stay safe as the third wave of the virus is already ravaging in some countries.
