Ogun State House of Assembly has called on stakeholders in the road safety and traffic control including the State Commandants of the Federal Road Safety Corps, State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE) and Vehicle Inspection Office to evolve measures towards ensuring the regulation of the operations including arrest and prosecution of drivers of articulated vehicles whose unlatched containers often cause road accidents on roads.

Ogun State House of Assembly Building

The Speaker of the Assembly, Rt. Hon. Olakunle Oluomo, gave the charge while responding to the submission of a member representing Odeda State Constituency, Hon. Oludaisi Elemide under personal explanation at the plenary held at the Assembly complex, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.

Citing incidences of unavoidable deaths that were recorded in recent time within the State, Oluomo, expressed worries about the incessant crashes leading to deaths of innocent commuters as a result of lack of adherence to public safety measures.

He stated the need to put a stop to the rising number accidents occasioned by recklessness of some truck drivers leading to loss of lives and properties, especially on Highways within the State.

The Speaker further directed the House Committee on Transportation to as a matter of urgency, engage all transportation related agencies alongside the leadership of unions regulating articulated vehicle to find a lasting solution to the menace.

In another development, the Assembly as part of its quasi judicial function has passed a resolution recommending some actions towards reaching amicable resolutions of dispute on a landed property between one Mrs. Celestina Awojuola and Mr. Seun Folawole.

The Assembly recommended that, “Mrs. Celestina Awojuola should relocate to a nearby land after it has been sand- filled by the petitionee. That Folawole should move away the container currently on the new portion of land meant for the business of Mrs. Awojuola and replace it with that of the petitioner.

The Assembly added that Folawole should sand-fill the new portion of land, where the container of Mrs. Awojuola will be mounted, to the same level as the previous one in addition to relocating the food vendor at the entrance of the new portion of land meant for the business of Mrs. Awojuola. Folawole was also directed to demolish the fence at the entrance of the new portion of land to give access to Mrs. Awojuola to do her business.

The passage of the resolution followed the presentation of the report of the Committee on Justice, Ethics and Public Petition by the Chairman, Solomon Osho, who later moved the motion for its adoption and seconded by Hon. Damilola Soneye.
