As political activities ahead of the 2027 governorship election gather momentum in Ogun State, calls for a shift of power to the state’s Ogun West have continued to dominate political discourse.

A Senior Liaison Officer to the House of Representatives’ member representing Remo Federal Constituency; Asiwaju Ayorinde Babatunde (FABREGAS) said the agitation for power rotation is rooted in the principles of equity, fairness and political balance.

Fabregas noted that since the creation of Ogun State in 1976, the governorship has alternated between Ogun Central and Ogun East, while Ogun West has yet to produce a democratically elected governor.

According to him, the 2027 election presents an opportunity to correct what he described as a longstanding political imbalance in the state.

He said the aspiration of Solomon Olamilekan Adeola (YAYI) has continued to attract attention across the state, adding that the senator’s experience and political reach make him a strong contender.

Fabregas argued that beyond the moral argument for zoning, Adeola possesses the competence and broad-based appeal required to lead the state effectively.

He also maintained that Ogun West has consistently supported successive administrations in the state and therefore deserves the opportunity to produce the next governor in the interest of inclusiveness and unity.

“Granting Ogun West the chance to produce the next governor will not only strengthen unity but also reinforce public confidence in the principle of rotational leadership,” he said.

Fabregas further highlighted Adeola’s legislative background, noting that before representing Ogun West in the Senate, he served in the National Assembly representing Lagos West, where he built a reputation as a grassroots politician with significant influence in fiscal and budgetary matters.

According to him, Adeola’s experience in appropriation and financial oversight at the national level has equipped him with valuable insight into governance, public finance and policy implementation.

He added that since assuming office as senator representing Ogun West, Adeola has facilitated several developmental initiatives across the district, including youth and women empowerment programmes, road construction and rehabilitation projects, community-based infrastructure, educational support schemes and economic assistance initiatives.

“These interventions reflect his commitment to grassroots development and human capital investment,” Fabregas stated.
He also noted that within the All Progressives Congress, political strategists are already considering electability as a key factor ahead of the 2027 elections.

According to him, Adeola enjoys considerable goodwill across Ogun Central, Ogun East and Ogun West, positioning him as a formidable candidate capable of consolidating support across party and regional lines.

Fabregas stressed that Ogun State, as one of Nigeria’s leading industrial hubs, requires experienced leadership to consolidate ongoing development in infrastructure, education, agriculture and industrial growth.

He added that Adeola’s political maturity, administrative exposure and strong federal connections could help attract greater collaboration and development opportunities for the state.

“As consultations continue across the state, the issues remain clear — Ogun West deserves fairness, experience matters in governance, performance should outweigh promises, and electability is critical in a competitive political environment,” he said.

In conclusion, he maintained the view that the next chapter of Ogun State’s political leadership should be entrusted to Senator Adeola in 2027.
