A young Nigerian woman has publicly apologised to Nigerians after police investigations reportedly revealed that her mother was not kidnapped as earlier claimed.
The lady had, a few days ago, released an emotional video appealing to members of the public to donate ₦50 million to secure the release of her mother, whom she said had been abducted by kidnappers.
However, according to her statement, investigations by the Nigeria Police later uncovered that her mother was allegedly not in captivity but was with her boyfriend and had allegedly participated in staging the kidnapping in a bid to extort money from the public.
Expressing shock and disappointment over the development, the woman said she had no knowledge of the alleged plan and only made the appeal out of genuine concern for her mother’s safety.
“I am deeply sorry and sad. I don’t know anything about this plan; I only cried out as a daughter who didn’t want her mum to be killed,” she stated.
She appealed to Nigerians for forgiveness over the incident and promised to keep the public informed as investigations continue.
The case has generated widespread reactions on social media, with many Nigerians expressing sympathy for the daughter while calling for a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the alleged hoax.
