ABEOKUTA – The Ogun State Environmental Protection Agency (OGEPA) has sealed Bonny Pie Industry in Akinbo Township, Ewekoro Local Government Area, following allegations that the company was discharging untreated wastewater into a river serving the local community.

The enforcement action was carried out on the directive of OGEPA’s General Manager, Hon. Kehinde Bello, through the agency’s Enforcement Unit. It came after a petition filed by the Olu of Akinbo, Oba Rasheed Olamilekan, who expressed concerns over potential environmental and public health risks to residents.

According to the traditional ruler’s petition, the industry had allegedly been releasing untreated wastewater into the river, raising fears of pollution and health hazards for community members who depend on the water body.

Upon receiving the complaint, OGEPA’s Enforcement Unit promptly visited the facility for an on‑the‑ground assessment to verify the allegations. Following a preliminary inspection, the agency sealed the industry to prevent further environmental degradation, while a comprehensive investigation continues.

Hon. Kehinde Bello used the opportunity to reaffirm the state government’s commitment to environmental protection, stressing that all industries operating in Ogun State must comply with established environmental regulations and standards.

“The investigation will be thorough and transparent,” Bello assured residents of Akinbo community, adding that appropriate actions would be taken based on the outcome of the findings.
