In a bid to boost tourism and cultural appreciation in Ogun State, Governor Dapo Abiodun has announced free entry to the famous Olumo Rock Tourist Centre in Abeokuta from now until the end of September 2025.

The governor made the declaration on Thursday during the commissioning of the newly renovated Olumo Rock Tourism Complex. He stated that the initiative aims to encourage citizens to explore tourism and appreciate the richness of their cultural heritage.

The upgraded complex features a gallery displaying artworks and pictures of eminent Nigerians, a gazebo, a restaurant offering local and continental dishes, shops selling adire fabrics, and a standby generator to power newly installed elevators and other facilities.

Governor Abiodun emphasized that Olumo Rock is more than just a natural landmark—it symbolizes strength, refuge, and identity for the Egba people. He noted that renovating the site goes beyond infrastructure, as it revives cultural pride and reconnects people with their heritage.

“Tourism, when properly developed, can generate employment, attract investment, promote cultural understanding, and drive community development,” the governor said. He added that his administration remains committed to prioritizing tourism as a key pillar of the ISEYA development agenda.

Declaring Ogun State a top tourist destination, Governor Abiodun invited visitors worldwide to explore the state’s attractions. He highlighted that the Olumo Rock Tourism Complex has been fully renovated and now includes a world-class arts gallery and restaurants.

“This transformation turns Olumo Rock from a historic relic into a modern heritage site. It will boost local commerce, empower youths, and strengthen the creative economy,” he said.

The governor also revealed plans to concession the facility to a reputable organization for proper management and maintenance.

In his welcome address, the Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Hon. Sesan Fagbayi, commended the governor for revitalizing the tourist center, noting that it would attract more visitors.

The Alake and Paramount Ruler of Egbaland, Oba Adedotun Aremu Gbadebo, recounted the historical and spiritual significance of Olumo Rock, describing it as a sanctuary and military post for the Egba people in ancient times. He praised Governor Abiodun for modernizing the site while preserving its cultural essence.

Chief (Mrs.) Nike Okundaye, CEO of Nike Arts Gallery, expressed confidence that the renovation would increase global tourism traffic. She pledged to attract art enthusiasts from around the world to celebrate Nigeria’s heritage, create jobs, and foster knowledge exchange.

“Within two years, this site will become the number one tourist destination in Nigeria,” she affirmed.

The event marks a significant milestone in Ogun State’s efforts to harness tourism for economic growth and cultural preservation.
