Following the decisions taken at the Ogun Chapter of All Progressive Congress (APC) stakeholders meeting held with the governor and other leaders from Ogun Central to prune down the names of the aspirants to two or three where consensus fails and forward to the State, the APC chairmanship Aspirants in  Abeokuta South LG have adopted the current transition Chairman of Abeokuta south, Hon. Micheal Ayodeji Shomide as their candidate.

In a Communique issued at a meeting held on Monday 17th of May 2021 by 7 Chairmanship aspirants on the platform of All Progressives Congress of Abeokuta South local govt.

They Unanimously agreed and endorsed Hon Ayodeji Michael Shomide as our party consensus candidate (APC) for the office of the chairman,
Abeokuta South local govt. for forth coming local govt election.

They however, disassociated themselves from any purported nomination of groups within the party in the Local Government.

“Our purpose of endorsement is
because we lost confidence in the process the leaders in the local government adopted in their selection.

“We hereby disassociate ourselves from the purported nomination of groups within the party in our local govt , they said

The aspirants are:

1- Hon Adedayo Okanlanwan Akintoye
2- Hon Muisi Oladehinde Omitogun
3- Hon Olujimi Adekunle
4- Hon Damilare Olumide Tosin
5- Hon Toyosi Abdulquasin Enilolobo
6- Hon Mustapha Kodaolu Olajide

Meanwhile, the Publicity Secretary of the party’s Caretaker Committee, Tunde Oladunjoye said the arrangement was to ensure that none of the contestants in the LG elections spend money unnecessarily,

Oladunjoye noted that, the party had been able to come up with solutions to multiple candidates in some local governments.

He said the process of reaching consensus on the candidates had already started, saying lists of agreed candidates would be made available during the week.

He said, “The leaders have assured the governor that the process of reaching consensus is ongoing, and by Wednesday, they will come back with the list of agreed candidates in the local government. We expect that some local governments will come back with one candidate, while those who have more than two or three will go for direct primaries.”
