Leaders of the Organised Labour in Ogun State on Tuesday attacked some journalists in the state who were covering the compliance level of the industrial action embarked upon by the Union.

The journalists who were at the Ijaye State Hospital in Ijaye, Abeokuta, became the victims of the union members who behaved like louts and came down on the journalists who were on their legitimate duties.

The display of Identity Cards by the journalists could not prevent the union members who descended heavily on journalists and beat them blue-black.

The Union members who came to the place in vehicles also attacked and physically assaulted female journalists who were part of the team that visited the hospital and Collected her working tools.

Those attacked included Daud Olatunji of the Punch newspaper, Joke Adeleye of PM News, Michael Olaoluwa, Tutu Sobowale of PlatformTimes online newspaper, one Busola from an Abeokuta-based radio station and two others freelancers.

It was revealed that after the attack on the journalists, some workers of the hospital who were also on emergency duty were harassed outside of their workplace.

One of the journalists who spoke with the Independent said, “I was beaten blue-black, physically assaulted despite displaying ID cards, I am having serious headache now, will talk to you later.”

The Organised union had on Monday declared a total and indefinite strike over alleged neglect of their demands from the government which included unremitted salary deductions spanning 21 months, amongst others.
