A devastating accident has claimed the lives of up to 19 members of Team Kano’s contingent returning from the 22nd National Sports Festival (NSF) in Abeokuta, Ogun State.

Reports indicate that the athletes’ bus crashed at Dakatsalle Bridge, approximately 50 kilometres from Kano, after passing through Kaduna State. A viral video from the scene suggests the vehicle skidded off the bridge, leading to the fatal accident.

Confirming the tragic incident, Umar Bala Fagge, Chairman of the Kano State Sports Commission, disclosed that the ill-fated coaster bus was transporting about 30 athletes during the crash.

Authorities have yet to release an official casualty figure, but fears remain high as rescue operations continue. The sports community and the nation at large mourn this heartbreaking loss.
