A non governmental organization, Life Foundation has called on the Ogun state Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun to probe the abandoned Sango to Ojodu Abiodun road. The group also appealed to the governor to rescue the residents along the road from the precarious situation which the past administration has put them in over the abandoned construction of the road.

The abandoned road has left the state of the road in worse state than the past administration met it before embarking on its reconstruction. Speaking to the president of the organization who is also a resident of the area Mr John Oladipupo, he sighted fraud, contract inflation and insincerity on the part of the former governor Ibikunle Amosun as the reasons why the project suffered huge setback after demolishing thousands of properties without adequate compensation.

In his words, “If the Sango to Ojodu Abiodun road is 32Km and Amosun constructs 1km of road at N1bn, that will give us N32bn. There are 5 flyover bridges on the road. If Amosun constructs 1 flyover at N2.5bn, 5 flyover bridges will be N12.5bn. The total will be N44.5bn.

Now what baffles me is that Amosun said the road will cost the state N70bn (N25.5bn difference) and that the state had already spent N21bn on that road and it’s less than 10% completed.

What now baffles me more is that this same road was budgeted for in the 2012 budget at N12bn. Please can somebody help us with the mathematical discrepancies? We urge the new governor, Dapo Abiodun to look into this fraud and come to the rescue of the residents of the area”

The state Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun has however promised not to abandon projects left by his predecessor. It was learnt that the governor has since set up a committee to look into various abandoned projects across the state which some have been fully paid for. A source within the government revealed.

“A committee has been set up by the governor to look into these projects, we shall get a clearer picture of the situation of these projects. The government will come out with its White Paper on the report submitted by the committee”.

“But I can assure you that the projects will not be abandoned. Those that were misplaced projects will be put to the use that will have a direct socio-economic impact on our people.”
