Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun has sworn-in Transition Committee for the 20 local councils in the state.
Among them are Hon. Ayodeji Shomide, aka, AY Show of premier local government, Abeokuta south and Hon. Semiu Bola Lawal, Odeda Local government with a charge that they should compliment government’s efforts in improving the lives and welfare of the people.

Governor Abiodun gave the charge on Friday while inaugurating the committees at the June 12, Cultural Centre, Abeokuta, the state capital.

Abiodun assured that the government would end the trust deficit being witnessed between the government and the people at the grassroot levels, saying the government would do all it’s best to bring development to them.

He urged the transition committees to be worthy ambassadors of the government and responsible to the people as well as study the people’s needs and report back to the government in scheme of things.

He noted that the tasks before the chairmen were enormous, pointing out that it would be achievable and rewarding, if it was done contentiously, in line with the principles of due process by spending funds at their disposal with prudence.

“Let me also inform you that you have no absolute power but ensure that you operate in line with due process at all times. We will incorporate a system of check and balances, your activities will be put under intense watch while the transition lasts, all your actions and inactions are under scrutiny.

“You are to apply the funds at your disposal with prudence and undertake developmental projects that touch the life of our people very positively, by doing this, your leadership can quickly make its mark in areas of roads, primary education, health care, sanitation and refuse collection in markets, with enhanced revenue generation, among others”, he said.

He urged traditional rulers, community leaders and people in the various Local Governments to support the constituted transition committees in creating a fresh chapter for good governance at the grassroots level and the successful implementation of this administration’s ’Building Our Future Together’ agenda.

Responding on behalf of the transition committees, the Chairman of Odeda local council, Mr. Bola Lawal assured that they would work for the development of their areas as well as support the government with all within their capacity.
