Abeokuta – The Governor’s Elders Advisory Council has lauded the administration of Governor Dapo Abiodun, giving him high marks for his implementation of the ISEYA mantra over the past six years. The commendation came during the council’s quarterly meeting held in Abeokuta on Wednesday.
Chief Oluneye Okuboyejo, Chairman of the council, highlighted the administration’s achievements, including the significant facelift given to the Olumo Rock Tourist Centre and the installation of world-class landing equipment at the Gateway International Airport. According to Okuboyejo, these initiatives are a testament to the Governor’s leadership and administrative acumen.
Chief Okuboyejo also praised the State Executive Council for approving the construction of several key roads across the state. These include the Ogbere-Orija-Bode junction in Ijebu East, Erelu to Imosan road in Odogbolu Local Government, Akute bridge to Agbado bridge in Ifo Local Government, Iperu to Ilishan road in Remo, Imashayi to Igan-Okoto in Yewa, and the Erinja to Ilobi road.
“We’ve reviewed the activities of government, we’ve acknowledged where they are doing very well, and we’ve commended them and the benefits of our relationship with the Governor of the state. We’ve acknowledged it; as elders, we should recognise it,” Chief Okuboyejo stated. He added, “We will continue to do our duties, be loyal to the party, and give sound advice. He has been excellent; his last six years have been very excellent. You know, the Governor works with a mantra, and on each of those mantras, we in this council will score him an A plus.”
The Chairman also urged residents to take ownership of public infrastructure, guarding it against vandalism. “My advice to our people is that they should see themselves as the government; they should accept that whatever the government does, it is their own, not for any individual. If you see anybody doing anything wrong to government projects or property, you have a duty to say something; we shouldn’t keep quiet,” he emphasised.
Alhaja Salimot Badru, a former Deputy Governor of the state and a member of the Advisory Council’s Executive, acknowledged Governor Abiodun’s substantial contributions to the state’s economic development. She affirmed that the Governor has made the council proud through the successful execution of projects leading to overall state development.
“We’ve gone through all the projects that were done after our last meeting; we can see the construction of many roads, and we can see the airport equipped with state-of-the-art facilities. We can see that the Olumo Rock Tourist Centre has been given a facelift, and we are happy that the National Sports Festival, tagged the Gateway Games, was successful; the outing was marvellous. We want to appreciate Governor Dapo Abiodun for making us proud in Ogun State,” Alhaja Badru remarked.
Senator Genga Kaka, another former Deputy Governor and member of the Advisory body’s executive council, expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the upgrading of Tai Solarin University of Education in Ijebu-Ode to a federal university and the Federal Polytechnic, Ilaro, to a university. He also commended the President for appointing a management team for the Federal University of Medicine and Medical Sciences in Abeokuta. Senator Kaka further lauded Governor Abiodun for fostering an environment conducive to such advancements in tertiary institutions within the state.
