The Cocoa Farmers Association of Nigeria (CFAN) has confirmed the release of the three remaining victims who were abducted during a recent kidnapping incident involving its members in Ogun State. However, the release was reportedly marked by confusion and sudden gunfire.

In a press statement issued on March 21, 2026, CFAN disclosed that the victims—members of its Ogun State chapter—were among five farmers seized during a familiarisation visit to the Cocoa Research Institute of Nigeria (CRIN). Two of the abducted individuals had previously been freed on health grounds.

According to the association, the remaining three victims were released between 12:00 a.m. and 2:00 a.m. after their families paid a ransom at an undisclosed location in Ogun State. However, the situation took a dramatic turn in Ibadan when an unidentified person fired a sudden gunshot, throwing the victims into confusion and temporarily affecting their coordination.

CFAN explained that two of the victims, Ayebusiwa Toyin and Ayebusiwa Tayo, were later assisted to safety by operatives of the Amotekun Corps near a quarry site. The third victim, Omosoluyi Omoseyimi, was able to contact the association around 8:30 a.m.

The association expressed relief that all three victims have now been safely reunited with their families.

CFAN also acknowledged the support of security agencies, including the Nigeria Police Force, the Department of State Services (DSS), and the Amotekun Corps, as well as local hunters and members of the public, for their roles during the crisis.

While thanking Nigerians for their solidarity, CFAN called on authorities to strengthen security around CRIN and similar institutions to prevent similar occurrences in the future.

The statement was signed by CFAN National President, Adeola Adegoke.
