Residents of Imasayi in Yewa North Local Government Area of Ogun State have raised concerns over what they describe as decades of political exclusion, calling on Governor Dapo Abiodun to address the imbalance ahead of the forthcoming elections.

In an open letter addressed to the governor, the group, under the banner of Concerned Imasayi Citizens, lamented that Imasayi has consistently been sidelined in the representation of Yewa North/Isokan State Constituency 1 at the Ogun State House of Assembly, despite its size and political contributions.

The community noted that the constituency, which comprises over seven wards within Yewa North, has never produced a representative from Imasayi, a situation they described as unjust and long overdue for correction.

While acknowledging the developmental strides of the Abiodun administration, particularly the construction of the Imasayi–Ayetoro road linking Igan-Okoto and surrounding communities, the group said infrastructure alone cannot substitute for equitable political representation.

“The people of Imasayi have been patient and supportive over the years, backing candidates from other wards. We believe it is now our turn to contribute meaningfully to governance.

“In the history of Yewa North & Isokan state constituency 1 Politics in Ogun state which comprises over 7 wards, Imasayi has been cast aside and marginalized from representing the local government at The State House of Assembly Chamber.

“We express our gratitude to Governor Prince Dapo Abiodun, for your unconditional commitment, inclusiveness and generosity for finding us worthy in your leadership role. We wish to reiterate our high praise anew for bringing some of our sons and daughters into your government for a better Ogun State.

The group specifically urged the governor to support the emergence of Prince OluwaFemi Akinlawon, an indigene of Imasayi, as the next representative of Yewa North/Isokan Constituency 1 in the state assembly.

They described Akinlawon as a credible aspirant with deep roots in the community and the capacity to advance the interests of the constituency.

It further reads “We passionately write heartily to please in your magnanimous efforts and dedication for better Ogun State, acknowledging our viewpoint (IMASAYI) in the forthcoming elections giving a bonafide son of Imasayi (Prince OluwaFemi Akinlawon) a chance to represent the people of Yewa North Isokan state constituency 1 in the Ogun State House of Assembly.

“Prince OluwaFemi Akinlawon is a bonafide son of Imasayi Yewa North Isokan state constituency who has a valid root after a deep background check, OluwaFemi Akinlawon an aspirant for the Ogun State House of Assembly, Yewa North (Isokan state constituency 1). Imasayi people have waited patiently, supported other ward candidates and we believe it’s our time to contribute to a better Yewa North and Ogun State through our son Hon. Prince OluwaFemi Akinlawon.

Reaffirming their support for the governor’s leadership, the citizens commended his inclusive style of governance and expressed optimism that their appeal would receive due consideration.

The appeal adds to growing conversations around zoning, inclusiveness, and grassroots representation in Ogun West Senatorial District, as political activities begin to gather momentum ahead of the next electoral cycle.

Observers say the demand from Imasayi reflects broader tensions within local political structures, where issues of fairness and rotation of power continue to shape alignments and aspirations.
