IJEBU EAST – Hon. Owode Waliu Ifedolapo, the lawmaker representing Ijebu East Constituency in the Ogun State House of Assembly, has expressed deep sorrow over the tragic death of a 49-year-old resident, Mr. Musa Yahaya Kalamu, who was killed in a wild elephant attack in the Itasin area of Ijebu East Local Government.

Describing the incident as “deeply unfortunate and shocking,” Hon. Ifedolapo extended his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family and prayed for strength and peace for them during this difficult time.

The lawmaker also called for calm among residents, acknowledging the fear and anger sparked by the rare and tragic event.

*”While we understand the pain and confusion this incident has caused, we urge our people to remain calm. The government is being engaged to take swift and lasting action,”* he said.

Hon. Ifedolapo urged the Ogun State Government and relevant wildlife and environmental agencies to immediately investigate the incident and implement preventive measures to avoid a recurrence.

He eemphasisedthe need for a conservationist development plan in the area to manage human-wildlife interactions, ensuring the safety of lives and property while maintaining ecological balance.

*”This tragedy highlights the urgent need for coordinated efforts between conservation agencies, local authorities, and the state government. Our communities should not live in fear of wildlife attacks. We must strike a balance between conservation and safety,”* he added.

The lawmaker reaffirmed his commitment to collaborating with all stakeholders to deploy effective solutions and prevent such incidents in the future.

He also assured residents that the matter would be raised on the floor of the Ogun State House of Assembly as part of efforts to find a lasting resolution.
