Abeokuta, Ogun State – In a renewed demonstration of commitment to retirees’ welfare, the Ogun State Government has disbursed N6.7 billion to offset outstanding gratuities for retired public servants.

Governor Dapo Abiodun announced this during the opening of the 9th Quarterly General Meeting of the Association of Retired Heads of Service and Permanent Secretaries, South-West Nigeria (ARHOSPS-SWN), held in Abeokuta. Represented by the Head of Service, Mr Kehinde Onasanya, the governor described the payment as part of his administration’s dedication to senior citizens who contributed to the state’s development.

*”This gesture reflects our appreciation and responsibility as a responsive government committed to the welfare of our retirees, whose roles in actualizing our ‘Building Our Future Together’ agenda remain invaluable,”* Abiodun stated.

He emphasized his administration’s resolve to sustain engagement with retired civil servants, acknowledging their wealth of experience in shaping governance. The governor also disclosed plans to train prospective retirees—particularly top-tier officers—to ease their transition into post-service life.

In his remarks, ARHOSPS-SWN Regional President Dr. Ebenezer Okebukola commended the state government for its support, including partnerships to boost power supply and food security. Meanwhile, security expert and retired AIG Sikiru Lanre Bankole, in a keynote address, advised elderly citizens to be cautious of cybercrime and fraudulent investment schemes.

The meeting concluded with the inauguration of a seven-member electoral committee to oversee the association’s leadership transition. Delegates from across the southwest, including Otunba Nurudeen Ojora (Lagos) and Mrs. Mojisola Ajayi (Ondo), lauded Ogun State’s infrastructure development and consistent pension payments.

Governor Abiodun urged the retirees to leverage their expertise in advancing regional progress, reinforcing his administration’s pledge to prioritize their well-being.
