Ibadan – The Oyo State Police Command has dismissed as false and misleading a widely circulated publication containing purported operational details about the recent abduction incident in Ahoro-Esiele, Oriire Local Government Area of the state.
In a statement issued on Friday by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, the Command said the publication, which allegedly disclosed suspects’ identities, communication interception details, and financial transactions linked to the investigation, did not originate from the police or any authorized security agency.
According to the Command, the report contains speculative claims and technical assertions capable of misleading the public and undermining ongoing security operations.
The police emphasized that investigations into the kidnapping incident remain active, sensitive, and intelligence-driven, noting that operational details, investigative leads, identities of suspects, and financial intelligence are being treated with strict confidentiality to avoid compromising efforts to apprehend those responsible.
The Command warned members of the public, bloggers, and online publishers against spreading unverified information, stressing that the dissemination of false or operationally sensitive reports could create unnecessary panic and obstruct ongoing investigations.
It further stated that it would not hesitate to invoke the full weight of the law against individuals or groups found deliberately circulating false information or interfering with security operations.
The police urged residents to rely solely on official communication channels for verified updates on the case and other security matters.
Reaffirming its commitment to public safety, the Command assured residents that efforts were ongoing to identify, arrest, and prosecute all those involved in the crime.
For emergencies, residents were advised to contact the Oyo State Call Response Centre on the toll-free line 615, or the Oyo State Police Command Control Room on 08081768614 and 07055495413.
The statement was signed by DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, Police Public Relations Officer, Oyo State Command, on June 5, 2026.
