Ibadan – A suspected thief was apprehended on Thursday at the University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan, after allegedly stealing a mobile phone within the hospital premises.
According to eyewitnesses, the suspect was seen walking past the Oral Surgery Clinic shortly before the incident. Moments later, shouts of “Ole! Ole!” (thief) rang out from the area, drawing the attention of staff and visitors.
Witnesses said the man was quickly identified as the individual who had earlier been seen in the vicinity and was subsequently apprehended. The stolen mobile phone was reportedly recovered from him at the scene.
A further search of the suspect’s belongings allegedly uncovered several ATM cards belonging to medical personnel at the hospital. Sources within the hospital said some of the cards had previously been reported missing.
Hospital staff also expressed concerns over a series of theft incidents within the facility in recent weeks, including reports of missing phones, laptops, and motorcycles. The discovery of the ATM cards has raised suspicions that the suspect may be linked to some of the earlier cases.
While some staff members claimed the suspect may not be a first-time offender, authorities have yet to make an official statement on the matter.
Investigations are expected to continue to determine the suspect’s involvement in other reported theft cases within the hospital.
