The Articulate Motorcycle Owners and Riders Association of Nigeria (AMORAN) in Ogun State has declared its intention to use the democratic power of the Permanent Voter Card (PVC) to express gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Prince Dapo Abiodun for their developmental projects.

The State Chairman of the union, Otunba Taofeek Sokoya, made this declaration during a general meeting of the association held in Sagamu on Tuesday. He stated that the union’s members are impressed with the “good works” the administrations at both the federal and state levels are doing, particularly projects impacting transportation and livelihoods.

Sokoya announced a new directive linking union leadership to civic responsibility, stating that henceforth, all members must possess and show their voter cards as a prerequisite for eligibility to contest in the union’s upcoming 2026 internal elections. This move, he explained, is to encourage active political participation among his members.

“We will use our PVC to pay back President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Prince Dapo Abiodun for their good deeds,” Sokoya told the assembled members. He pointed to specific infrastructural projects as the reason for this support, noting, “The Sagamu to Benin road has been started, the Lagos-Abeokuta road is ongoing, and other facilities have been put in place to make life better for our members.”

With the continuous voter registration exercise ongoing by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the chairman seized the opportunity to encourage his members to get registered. He urged them not only to register themselves but also to mobilise their families to do the same, emphasising the importance of being politically enumerated.

Addressing the union’s loyalty to the state government, Sokoya affirmed, “The governor is the leader of the state and whatever the governor says, we will carry it to the letter,” signalling the association’s alignment with the state’s leadership.

In a significant move towards inclusivity, the chairman also championed greater women’s participation within the union’s hierarchy. He specifically tasked the State Exco member, Mrs. Funmi Fadipe, with the responsibility of recruiting more women ahead of the next union elections.

To ensure this goal is met, Chairman Sokoya promised personal oversight of the electoral process in the Ogun East senatorial district. He declared his aim to ensure that at least two women are elected as branch chairmen within the district, marking a potential shift in the traditionally male-dominated association.

The union, which boasts over 10,000 members across Ogun State, is a significant grassroots organisation whose collective voting power could influence electoral outcomes in key areas. This public endorsement is seen as a major boost for the political figures ahead of the next election cycle.
