BREAKING: Ogun Constitutes Transition Council for Ijebu Ode Following Awujale’s Passing

IJEBU ODE – In a swift move to ensure stability and continuity, the Ogun State Government has officially constituted a high-powered Administrative Council to oversee the affairs of Ijebu Ode during the critical transition period before the installation of a new Awujale.

The announcement, made by the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon. Ganiyu Hamzat, on Tuesday, establishes a body of esteemed traditional chiefs and professionals to manage the ancient town’s administrative and traditional responsibilities.

Veteran chief, Chief Folorunso Sunny Kuku (Ilamuren), has been appointed as the Chairman of the council, with Chief Oluwaranti Lekan Osifeso (Madassa) serving as the Secretary.

The council comprises eleven other prominent figures from key traditional groups, including the Ilamuren and Pampa chieftaincy lines, ensuring broad representation. Notable members include Chief Bisola Oluneye Okuboyejo, Chief Tunde Odulaja, and Prof. Jide Ajayi.

The New Administrative Body
The newly constituted body, which will be chaired by Chief Folorunso Sunny Kuku (Ilamuren), includes a mix of prominent chiefs from the Ilamuren, Madassa, and Pampa traditional groups. Chief Oluwaranti Lekan Osifeso (Madassa) will serve as the secretary.
The members of the body are:

Chief Stepehen Bakare Oluwalogbon (Ilamuren) – Member
Chief Bisola Oluneye Okuboyejo (Ilamuren) – Member
Chief Funmilola Okunowo (Ilamuren) – Member
Prof. Jide Ajayi (Ilamuren) – Member
Chief Tunde Odulaja (Pampa) – Member
Chief Abimbola Okenla (Pampa) – Member
Chief Agboola Alausa (Pampa) – Member
Chief (Mrs.) Adebisi Oshibogun (Pampa) – Member
Chief Adebisi Adaran (Gbeden) (Ogbeni Odi) – Member

In the statement, Governor Dapo Abiodun reiterated his administration’s “commitment to ensuring stability, continuity, and respect for the cherished traditions of Ijebu Ode during this transition period.”

The government is calling on all sons and daughters of Ijebuland, both at home and abroad, to offer their full support to the newly constituted body. The statement emphasised that cooperation from all stakeholders is “crucial in safeguarding the peace, harmony, and unity that Ijebu land is known for.”

Residents are urged to remain law-abiding and peaceful as the process of selecting a new monarch begins, with the government promising a transparent and inclusive procedure that preserves the cultural heritage of the Ijebu people.
