The Ogun State Government has recorded another milestone in its aviation sector with the safe arrival of the state’s pilgrims at the Gateway International Airport, Iperu, marking a significant step in the state’s transportation and infrastructure development efforts.
The Commissioner for Transportation, Hon. Gbenga Dairo, described the development as a reflection of Governor Dapo Abiodun’s commitment to expanding critical infrastructure and positioning Ogun State as a hub for economic growth and investment.
Reacting to the successful operation, Dairo said the use of Gateway International Airport for the arrival of the pilgrims signals a new chapter in the state’s aviation history and demonstrates the airport’s operational readiness.
According to him, the seamless landing and processing of the pilgrims underscore the growing strategic importance of the airport to Ogun State and the Southwest region.
“This achievement highlights Governor Abiodun’s vision of transforming Ogun State into a centre for transportation, commerce and investment. The safe arrival of the pilgrims is a source of pride and a clear indication of the progress being recorded under this administration,” he said.
The commissioner commended the management of the airport, security agencies and other stakeholders for ensuring a hitch-free operation, noting that the exercise further demonstrates the state’s capacity to handle major aviation activities.
He also congratulated the returning pilgrims on the successful completion of their spiritual journey and wished them safe reunions with their families.
Also speaking, the Governor’s Consultant on Aviation, Capt. Dapo Olumide, said the successful reception of the pilgrims represents another landmark achievement in the ongoing efforts of the Abiodun administration to strengthen Ogun State’s transportation network and expand critical infrastructure.
Olumide expressed confidence that the airport would continue to enhance connectivity, stimulate commerce and attract more development opportunities to the state.
He added that the successful operation validates the state’s investment in aviation infrastructure and reinforces the airport’s capability to support both commercial and special flight operations.
The arrival of the pilgrims at Gateway International Airport is widely seen as another significant milestone in Ogun State’s drive to establish itself as a major transportation and economic gateway in Nigeria.
