The Senator representing Ogun Central in the National Assembly, Shuaib Afolabi Salisu, has urged Nigerians to continue praying for the peace and progress of the country and its leaders as the holy month of Ramadan comes to an end.

Senator Salisu made the call in a goodwill message to Muslims across Ogun state, particularly those in Ogun Central Senatorial District, urging them to live by the tenets of Ramadan, the teachings of the Prophet, and the lessons of the holy month.

The Chairman of the Senate Committee on ICT and Cyber Security believes that if Nigerians, irrespective of faith, apply the lessons of the Islamic period of fasting, the country will be back on track for growth and development, becoming a leading member of the comity of Nations.

“If every Nigerian adopts the discipline, self-restraint, God-consciousness, generosity, love, affection, and faith in God that are the hallmarks of Ramadan as a guide for their personal and national life, the nation will move past its current socioeconomic challenges and fulfill the promise of greatness.”

The Senator adds that Ramadan, being a time of self-reflection, spiritual growth, and renewal, has brought everyone closer to God and to one another, reaffirming the need for oneness and unity in the country.

“Throughout Ramadan, we have come together in prayer, fasting, and acts of charity – embodying the values of compassion, empathy, and solidarity as prescribed by Prophet Muhammad and indeed all his brother Prophets (Peace on them all). It has been truly inspiring to witness the kindness and generosity that abound in our midst as we strive to support one another and uplift those in need.”

“As we celebrate Eid-el-Fitr and break our fasts with family and friends, let us continue to carry forward the spirit of Ramadan in our hearts. Let us remain steadfast in our commitment to serving others, fostering understanding and harmony, and building a brighter future for all.

Senator Salisu adds that one of the lessons of Ramadan is for everyone to expect joyous moments after a period of abstinence. He therefore urges Nigerians to keep hope in the country alive and remain prayerful as the country weathers the heavy storm of economic hardship and prepares for a rebound of its economic greatness under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
