IPERU-REMO — The first batch of 345 pilgrims from the Ogun State contingent to the 2026 Hajj pilgrimage has arrived safely at the Gateway International Airport, Iperu-Remo, marking a significant milestone for both the state and the airport.

The pilgrims, comprising 151 males and 194 females, landed at exactly 8:54 p.m. on Thursday aboard an Airbus A330 operated by Flynas, a Saudi Arabian airline, on a direct flight from Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

Their arrival not only signified the successful completion of the 2026 Hajj exercise by the Ogun State contingent but also further underscored the growing status of the Gateway International Airport as a strategic aviation hub.

The returning pilgrims were received by top government officials led by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Mr. Tokunbo Talabi, who represented Governor Prince Dapo Abiodun. Also present at the reception were the Head of Service, Mr. Olanrewaju Saka, and several local government chairmen from Ogun East Senatorial District.

Speaking during the reception, Governor Abiodun, through the SSG, expressed gratitude to Almighty Allah for the successful return of the pilgrims and the smooth conduct of the exercise.

> “I feel very happy because many people thought this day would not be possible, but we thank Almighty Allah for making it a reality,” the governor said.

Also speaking, the Consultant to the Governor on Islamic Affairs and leader of the first batch of pilgrims, Sheikh Lawal Sugar, praised Governor Abiodun for his unwavering commitment to the welfare and well-being of the pilgrims before and throughout the pilgrimage.

One of the returning pilgrims and Special Assistant to the Governor in the Office of the SSG, Dr. Murtala Ejalonibu, thanked Allah for a safe journey and successful return to Nigeria. He expressed delight that the pilgrims were able to arrive directly at the Gateway International Airport and commended the state government for the support provided during the pilgrimage.

Dr. Ejalonibu described the 2026 Hajj exercise as successful, memorable, and well-coordinated, while appreciating Governor Abiodun for ensuring adequate welfare arrangements for the pilgrims.

The successful arrival of the first batch of pilgrims is expected to be followed by subsequent flights conveying other members of the Ogun State contingent back home from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
